Last year the Green Initiatives undertaken in the Chilliwack School District saved our school district $185,000!
The average classroom uses approximately 8000 Watts (8 KILOwatts) of electricity per school day. You can save a minimum of 1 Kilowatt each day by simply making sure that the classroom lights are off during lunch and other breaks.
The Chilliwack School District is happy to announce that at the end of February, 2011, 78 % of District Schools were successful in meeting significant goals for energy savings as a part of the School District #33 Energy Challenge.
All District sites were challenged to “Go Green” by shutting off unnecessary lights, monitors and other electrical appliances.
Schools who were successful at meeting their targets will now be the recipients of their savings in the form of funds that can instead be used directly for meeting student learning needs at their sites.
Come back to our site in September, 2011, to see the excellent resources we will have available for schools, teachers, and students. We will have links to real time energy monitors for each site, links to teaching resources, and links to students websites and student opportunities, to name a few!
