District Authority Awards

The District Authority Award from the BC Ministry of Education recognizes graduates who have demonstrated excellence in a chosen area, within one of the categories below. Each year, 5500 District Authority Scholarships are distributed across British Columbia based on grade 12 enrolments. Awards are offered within the public school system and independent school system.

  • Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (APLSK) - for example business, technology, home economics, media arts, tourism
  • Community Service (COMSERV) - volunteer activity including support/awareness of local, global and cultural issues
  • Fine Arts (FINE) - for example dance, drama, music, visual arts
  • Indigenous Languages and Culture (INDLC) - demonstrated at school or in the community
  • Languages (LNG) - demonstrated proficiency or passion for language learning
  • Physical Activity and Health (PHYSAC) - for example, athletics, dance, gymnastics within or outside of school
  • Technical and Trades Training (TRADES) - for example coding, culinary arts, mechanics, robotics, woodwork, construction industry
