June 26, 2025
Dear Chilliwack Families,
As we conclude the 2024–25 school year, I wish to extend my gratitude to the families of Chilliwack for your unwavering support of students throughout the academic year. Together, we continue to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where all learners can thrive. As our community continues to grow, I am deeply appreciative of the strong relationships we have built with families—relationships that form the foundation of a vibrant and connected district culture.
This year marked a significant milestone in our shared journey, as we undertook a comprehensive review of our Strategic Plan. Your thoughtful engagement in this process has helped shape a bold and purposeful vision for the future of education in Chilliwack. From November 2024 to April 2025, students, staff, parents, guardians, caregivers, Elders, Indigenous communities, and district and community partners participated in meaningful engagement sessions that informed our revised Strategic Plan. With nearly 8,600 thoughts shared, your voices helped identify the key priorities that will guide our work from 2025 to 2029: Student Success, Human Flourishing, Truth and Reconciliation, and Accountability.
Rooted in our shared values—Inclusion, Equity, Kindness, Collaboration, and Innovation—the new Strategic Plan affirms our collective purpose: Honouring, Shaping, and Inspiring our Past, Present, and Future. Inspired by the teachings of Tómiyeqw, we are reminded that the decisions we make today carry meaning for generations before and beyond us. This perspective continues to ground us in care, responsibility, and collective growth.
The final version of the Draft 2025–2029 Strategic Plan will be presented for approval at the public Board of Education meeting on June 30, 2025. Once approved, we will move into the implementation phase, supported by annual operational planning and a district-wide communication strategy to ensure shared understanding and alignment across all sites.
It is always an honour each June to join families and staff in celebrating the achievements of our graduating class. This year’s commencement ceremonies across our five high schools were filled with pride and gratitude as we raised our hands in recognition of each student crossing the stage—a powerful reminder of the collective effort it takes to support young people on their path forward.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the staff members who are retiring this year. We are deeply grateful for their care, dedication, and contributions to student success. They have enriched our district in countless ways, and we wish them continued health and happiness in the years ahead.
As summer approaches, I hope you find time to rest, reflect, and reconnect with the people and activities that bring you joy. May the coming weeks offer you space to slow down, embrace meaningful moments with family and friends, and appreciate the beauty of life around you. Wishing you a restful and fulfilling summer.
Sincerely,
Rohan Arul-pragasam
