French Immersion

 

The Chilliwack School District offers both early and late French Immersion programs.

Early French Immersion (EFI)

Online applications for students entering Kindergarten and Grade One can be submitted at any time by visiting https://sd33.bc.ca/registration. Please ensure that you register your Kindergarten child at their catchment area school, as placement in the Immersion program is not guaranteed. To apply for the Early Immersion program, select Cheam Elementary (EFI) as your school of choice. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system for selection will be used, within the parameters of our Selection Process. all applications received by 12:00 pm on January 10, 2020 will be included in this draw.

Applications after January 10th can also be made online by selecting Cheam Elementary as your school of choice. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the existing wait list. Please note, Kindergarten and Grade One students do not require previous French experience.

BUSING IS NOT PROVIDED FOR OUT-OF-CATCHMENT EARLY FRENCH IMMERSION STUDENTS. 

 

Late French Immersion (LFI)

Online applications for students entering Grade 6 in September 2020 can be submitted at any time by visiting https://sd33.bc.ca/registration and select either Chilliwack Middle School (LFI) or Vedder Middle School (LFI) as your school of choice. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery system for selection will be used, within the parameters of our Selection Process. all applications received by 12:00 pm on January 31, 2020 will be included in this draw.

Applications after January 31st can also be made online by selecting either Chilliwack Middle School or Vedder Middle School as your school of choice. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the existing wait list. Please note, Grade Six students do not require previous French experience.

If you are inquiring about our French Immersion program at the secondary school level, applications can be made online by selecting Sardis Secondary School. If space is not available, applicants will be added to the existing wait list.

BUSING IS NOT PROVIDED FOR OUT-OF-CATCHMENT EARLY FRENCH IMMERSION STUDENTS.

School Bus Safety Tips

For Drivers

  • The large AMBER alternating flashing lights warn motorists that the school bus is about to stop to either load or unload students; slow and stop if it is safe to do so.
  • The large RED alternating flashing lights warn motorists to STOP as the school bus is either loading or unloading students.
  • Drivers must STOP in either direction whenever you see flashing RED lights on a school bus.
  • After stopping for a school bus, don't start moving again until the bus moves on or the driver signals that it's safe by turning off the lights and pulling
